Date Night

For this podcast, I thought I would do something a little different. I decided to postpone the Guide to Saturday for a later time. For this week, I am going to talk about some of the best places to go to on a date. I cover several restaurants and other places to have a few drinks. I tried to use music throughout the episode that would fit for the topic I chose. I am sure you will notice it is a little different than usual. I felt that there were parts that drew on a little longer than I wanted to, but I feel it turned out ok and all of the audio sounded fine. Look for my Guide to food and drinks on Saturday at the end of the semester.

Friday

Here are some of the best deals that I have found for Fridays. I decided to go ahead and go over some of the well-known restaurants that are near campus. I decided to do just audio on this podcast. I feel that I am getting better and better at recording and editing audio in garageband. It takes me no time at all as long as I have my script to read. One word of advice, if you are trying to watch or listen to some of my podcasts, I would suggest using mozilla firefox as the web browser because they open up right away. Otherwise, you have to wait a while for Internet Explorer to open it or save it to your desktop if you are using Safari. I have included a map above to let you guys know exactly where some of the businesses are located.

Thursday

This is my second video podcast and it deals with some of the places I like to go on Thursdays. For this episode, I decided to use mostly photos to go along with my audio. These pictures are still frames from video, pics from my phone or camera, and from the business' respective websites. The one problem I have is when I am introducing or concluding the topic and not necessarily discussing any particular place. I do not have any specific video to show and I feel that it gets boring showing the same thing for too long. Overall, I feel that this episode turned out good and I created a different type of intro that I hope to be able to reuse in the future. I was surprised that it is a little longer than the previous video I created but I guess thats a good thing. I hope you guys enjoy it!

WEDNESDAYS

Today I am going to be posting my first video podcast for this series. It will go over some of the food and drink specials around town for Wednesdays. I tried to shoot different types of video and get pictures from websites but soon ran out of ideas. I feel like the audio part of this podcast went really well. I am not completely satisfied with the video part mostly because I do not know if there is a whole lot to shoot when I am discussing specials at several locations. I just wanted to make sure that I did not have any gaps without video so some of the shots are a little long. I did not have any problems putting it together but I do feel like I was limited. I had ideas of what I wanted to do but I soon figured out that imovie did not have some of those capabilities. Overall I am happy with it and you should make sure to watch it to the end because I stuck a short video in there that is pretty humorous.

Mondays and Tuesdays

I have some new podcasts for you guys that are available to see on the right under the heading "My Podcast Series." I highlight local businesses and give info on what they offer. This one is about five and a half minutes. I couldn't get the audio or video I recorded from my handycam to be recognized by the computers in the lab or library so I ended using some poorer quality audio from a video that was on my phone. I think I will try doing a video podcast next week so wish me luck because I haven't created any video projects so far. In two weeks I will have a new podcast available for you guys so don't forget. Also, leave me some feedback or comments if there is anything you like or would want to hear about in an upcoming episode.

My podcast will discuss where Texas Tech students can find the best food and drinks in Lubbock for every day of the week. I chose this topic because this is an area that interests me and I feel that other Tech students will find it helpful to know where there are cheap/good food and beverages. My first podcast will be available Sept. 17. I did see that other people in the class chose to do a lifestyle type theme as well but I believe mine is the only one that deals specifically with food and drink specials and divides them up for every day of the week. The biggest challenge that I faced while creating the first podcast of the series was getting used to the software. This introductory podcast should have been easy to create but this being my first podcast ever, that was to be expected. The biggest dilemma that I see in creating this series of podcasts is finding time to get into the studio or lab to use the equipment that I need. I also am not sure who I will interview in my future podcasts; however, I will find an appropriate person to interview by the time that is required. To solve the other problem, I have recently purchased a Macbook Pro that should arrive next week. This will enable me to create many of the podcasts and edit them wherever I may be.
